Moonbeam McSwine runs off with Sadie Hawkins!!
Sunday October 9th saw a thrilling day of competitive tennis, with three teams closely
packed behind the winning front runner. Congrats to Captain Liz "Sparky" Collins and her
partner Dave Wilson, along with team members Janet & Mike Eisan, Margaret & John Pizzi,
Janice Stadnicki & Bruce Blockley, Lisa Oei and Larry Townsend, Ralph & Mei Mei Maiano,
Bodil & Bob Platt, and Lisa & Terry Cush.

War Between the States is Settled!!
Well, not only did we enjoy some terrific and highly competitive
tennis fun, but also we acquired a great new set of t-shirts!!
In the Final, Texas captains Larry Carpenter & Keith Denkler
were excited as the first two matches split pretty evenly, however
the Penn team responded by sweeping the final two frames to
take an overall 19-15 win!!! Congrats to captains Vic Berliant
and Tim Hutchinson and players Leslie Hutchinson, Bodil
Platt, Jason & Jennifer Holmes, Jessie Mulry and Jim Hopfer.
And a big round of thanks to Tournament Commissioner Murry Cann and Desk support
Tony De Luca and Michael Fass for running such a great show, and to our very generous
Tournament Sponsors Herb Lakritz and Maria Murray.
Calcutta XXXV
Saturday nights’ party was a blast, with a stunning 3-course dinner courtesy of David
Hayden and Il Davide, and a wonderful location at the De Luca ranch enjoyed by the 110
plus players and guests.
The usual early Sunday shock was produced by Saturdays lowest point Code Red team
coming from behind in the decisive mens match, saving 7 match points, before winning 8-7
and edging out Saturdays Flushing Meadows division winners Blue Crew by ONE POINT!!
Investor favorite Kiss My Ace had a strong showing Saturday and made it to the semi-final
before being overcome by Purple Pansies, while the Orange Crush was too strong for
the Code Red team still basking in their earlier win. The final again saw a very close match-
up, with the score tied going into the sixth and decisive Mixed #1 doubles, with tournament
MVP Peter Armstrong/Janis Stadnicki of Purple Pansies proving
too much for Tom Schmierer/Beth Davis. Congrats to captain
Jessie Mulry, co-captain Randy Tugaw and other teamates
Paul Jolicoeur, Bill Levin, Arnold Rotbert, Fabienne Sowa,
Cindy Tugaw, Barbara Walsh, Art Wasserman, Linda Winslow.
And well done to Team Owner John Michelson!!
USTA 2011 League Seasons in progress ...
Congrats to MTCs Adult W3.5, W4.0 and M4.0 all headed to Districts this month, and to
SS65 M3.5 and W4.0 on their way to Sectionals in September!! In play, Super Senior 60,
Fifty-Fifty Mixed, and coming up soon Combo.

Court Resurfacing Project
We are delighted that Members may now enjoy the "softer touch" on the Plexicushion
surface on FIVE courts, and the "easier to see balls" on the US Open Blue/Green courts,
now covering all of our 12 courts!!
